Rockstar has built a lot of maps over the years. None of them look like this.
The State of Leonida is GTA 6's fictional version of Florida and it's confirmed to be the largest open world in Grand Theft Auto history. Fan mapping using leaked coordinates and Rockstar footage estimates it takes roughly six minutes and ten seconds to cross by car, compared to three minutes and thirty seconds in GTA 5. That's not a small upgrade. That's a fundamentally different scale of game. GTA 6 Wiki
Here's every confirmed location and what Rockstar has told us about each one.
Vice City
The anchor. The brand. The reason everyone is paying attention.
Rockstar describes Vice City as the sun and fun capital of America, where the glamour, hustle, and greed of the country are captured in a single city. GTA Base
This is Rockstar's reimagining of Miami, and it bears no connection to the Vice City from the 2000s game. GTA 6 takes place in the modern day, after the events of GTA 5, as part of the HD Universe. GTA 6 Wiki
Real Miami has over 800 miles of navigable waterways, and GTA 6's Vice City appears to replicate this with an extensive canal and coastal water network, making boats a far more practical transport option than in any previous GTA game. Gta6info
The Grassrivers
This is the location that no GTA game has attempted before.
Grassrivers is Rockstar's version of the Florida Everglades. It's a vast subtropical wetland covering a large portion of southern Leonida and is confirmed as the primary setting for hunting, fishing, and wildlife encounters. The area features swamps, marshlands, slow-moving rivers, cypress forests, and isolated rural communities. Gta6info
Alligators roam freely here. Players who think GTA is only about city streets are going to find something genuinely different in the Grassrivers.
The Leonida Keys
Rockstar's character bio for Jason specifically mentions he ended up in the Keys, making the Leonida Keys a confirmed story-relevant location and not just a scenic backdrop. GTA 6 Wiki
Modeled on the Florida Keys, this is a tropical archipelago connected by bridges and waterways. Expect beach towns, fishing villages, and the kind of scenery that makes the world feel worth exploring beyond the main story.
Port Gellhorn
Port Gellhorn is one of the key areas officially highlighted by Rockstar in their screenshot releases. Based on trailer analysis it appears to be a working port city, industrial and gritty, offering a sharp contrast to the neon glamour of Vice City proper. GTA Base
Rockstar hasn't released detailed descriptions yet. We'll update this when they do.
Ambrosia
Another officially confirmed location highlighted directly by Rockstar. Ambrosia appears to be a distinct town or district within Leonida. The name suggests something resort-adjacent or affluent, though specific details haven't been officially released yet.
What we know: it's confirmed, it's on the map, and it's distinct enough from Vice City to warrant its own identity.
Mount Kalaga National Park
Mount Kalaga is Leonida's elevated highland region, a forested area with lakes, rivers, and mountain terrain that gives the map its vertical range. Every great GTA map has its wilderness escape. For Leonida, this is it. Gta6info
The National Park designation suggests structured wilderness gameplay. Expect hunting, exploration, and remote terrain that rewards players who venture away from the cities.
How Big Is the Map Really?
Multiple outlets and fan analyses suggest Leonida is nearly twice the size of GTA 5's Los Santos and Blaine County, with Rockstar describing it as the biggest and most immersive Grand Theft Auto experience ever built. GTA Interactive Maps
The state is confirmed to consist of at least five counties, with evidence suggesting a second state called Gloriana, inspired by Georgia, may also appear in the game. GTA Base
Rockstar has also hinted the map is designed for post-launch expansion, with new missions, regions, and potentially new cities planned as GTA 6 Online grows. Leonida may only be the starting point. Gta6info
What's Not Confirmed Yet
Several locations spotted in trailers and leaked materials haven't received official Rockstar confirmation yet, including specific neighborhoods within Vice City, inland towns, and the full county breakdown. We'll update this guide the moment Rockstar confirms anything new.
The Bottom Line
Leonida isn't just a bigger map. It's a more varied one. Urban coastline, subtropical wetlands, tropical island chains, mountain highlands, working ports all in one state. No previous GTA game has offered this range of environments, and Rockstar is clearly building a world designed to stay interesting long after launch day.
